Finding the Perfect Wedding Lip Color: Comfortable Lipsticks that Work for Everyone

What lip color is appropriate for your bridal look? Which will make your pout pop? Finding a lip product with a shade/tone in your comfort zone is a difficult task for everyone, even for makeup addicts like myself. Choosing one with a wearable formula is an absolute must. The last thing you'd want are smeared, patchy or cracked lips 5 hours into your wedding day! In this blog post, I will highlight my ultimate favorite brands in particular, reliable shades to achieve a cohesive makeup look, including links for purchasing.

With these lip colors- smiling photo after photo, kissing your partner from ceremony to reception, and talking to each and every guest will come easy with these non-drying formulas and universally flattering shades. From rosey romantic to vintage vampy lips, I have something for you.

You may notice that I have left out many well-known brands such as Anastasia Beverly Hills, Stila, Too Faced, Smashbox, ColourPop, Tarte, and drug store brands (I may save drug store dupes for another post). After trying several (probably too many for my own good) lipsticks, I noticed some have longer wear time and more comfortable formulas. Obviously what works best for me and my skin may be significantly different from yours and your preferences. Please take this list as merely suggestions, not the end all be all!

Side note, I am not sponsored in any way, shape, or form by the brands featured in this post. Just sharing my favorites with my followers :)

Nude Lips

Whirl, MAC

The perfect dusty rose for any skin color. It can easily transition from a daytime to nighttime look. Whirl's formula is super comfortable to wear. This lipstick is definitely a must-have in your make up drawer.

Whirl is my personal go-to lipstick if I simply cannot choose what to wear that morning, or if I have a makeup emergency. It never leaves my makeup bag!

MAC, $17.00

Lolita, Kat Von D

If you're looking for the ideal nude with a hint of brown undertones, go for Lolita. This liquid lipstick goes against the common assumption that all liquid lipsticks are dry and crumbly. Its creamy formula glides on the lips without leaving them looking cracked. I easily forget that I have it on! Check the Sephora nearest you, but fair warning- they're usually sold out!

Sephora, $20.00

Vintage Avenue, Makeup Monsters

Ok, hear me out! Please ignore the incredibly tacky packaging because Makeup Monsters is a hidden treasure when it comes to lipsticks! You may not have heard of this brand, but it definitely deserves some attention. Makeup Monsters has THE most reliable formula I've ever used. I love the matte finish and light consistency. It also fades nicely.

Vintage Avenue is a mauvey nude for brides who want cooler tones instead of pinks and browns.

Vintage Avenue, $15.00

Pink Lips

Twig, MAC

A hint of pink that is not too light for darker skin, but rosey enough to brighten up the face. Such a perfect everyday color for spring as well. Twig is for brides going for the more subtle, romantic look.

You'll see MAC pop up a lot on this list because it's a dependable brand that delivers consistently well-formulated lipsticks. There's a reason why MAC is one of the most well-known brands.

MAC, $17.00

C211, Make Up Forever

This dusty rose is a great staple in your makeup collection. After your wedding, C211 can easily transition from season to season with just a simple change in eye shadows.

Sephora, $22.00

Rhubarb, Bite Beauty

Bite Beauty has one of the most moisturizing formulas of all time. Every time I wear a Bite Beauty lipstick, my lips end up softer after every application.

For the girl who is afraid of too much pink and loves brownish nudes (me!), this color is a great middle ground. Rhubarb is described as a "rich plum rose with brown".

Sephora, $26.00

Red Lips

Russian Red, MAC

This cool toned red is absolutely necessary to achieve a classic look. Russian Red is for a woman who demands attention. Because it is such a stark color, it stands on it's own and doesn't clash with any hair color or skin tone. Minimal eye and cheek makeup needed. Want to turn heads? Snag it now.

In my mind, you can never go wrong with MAC and you can never go wrong with timeless Russian Red.

MAC, $17.00

Bad Blood, Urban Decay

Bad Blood is one of the "comfort matte" formulas from Urban Decay's Vice Lipstick line and that accurately describes this lipstick.

This warm red is not for the weak-hearted. Be the classy but sassy bride in Bad Blood.

Ulta, $17.00

Unicorn Blood, Jeffree Starr

Jeffree Starr's line of Velour Liquid Lipsticks never fails to deliver a lip product with intense pigmentation and a smooth consistency.

Unicorn Blood is the perfect deep, cool-toned red especially for darker toned skin. This color is made for the holiday season.

Beautylish, $18.00

Berry Lips

Beetroot, Bite Beauty

If you're torn between a berry and a red lipstick look, pick Beetroot! This color works so well for medium-toned skin and spring weddings.

I know dark lipsticks scare some of us, but trust me- this will not flake on you! Beetroot's balmy texture will keep your smile beautiful all night.

Sephora, $26.00

Berry Me, Dose of Colors

Another formula that tops my list- Dose of Colors. It's light, moussey formula does not take a toll on your lips. The color fades beautifully, so you can rely on Dose of Colors when you want to stay away from blotchy lips after a meal.

Berry Me is the quintessential berry color that works for any skin and hair color. If red isn't your thing, if browns make you look dead, and you never were a fan of pink- pick Berry Me!

Dose of Colors, $18.00

At First Bite, Makeup Monsters

Again, ignore the tacky packaging because Makeup Monsters will not let you down!

At First Bite is a "mid-toned berry" shade that still gives a soft romantic look especially for brides with darker skin.

Makeup Monsters, $15.95

Vampy Lips

Bette, NARS

Any lipstick from the NARS Audacious Lipstick line is totally worth the price. This formula glides on the lips with ease, giving your pout a powerful punch of pigment! Say that 10 times fast!

Charlotte is a rich, deep cool-toned red for the vampy, vintage bride.

Sephora, $32.00

Mosh Pit, Urban Decay

Another color with the "comfort matte" formula from its Vice Lipstick line that gives a pop of plum. This deep berry plum shade is for lovers of purple that want to be slightly edgy.

Ulta, $17.00

C506, Make Up Forever

For those who want to go all the way... dare to wear this dark purple! This color can either really stand out for blondes or complement brunettes.

Sephora, $22.00
